About UFIT

We aim to mainstream diversity in and through fitness and sport

Universal Fitness Innovation & Transformation (UFIT) originated as an UNESCO Chair initiative to address our commitments to UNESCO to inclusivize fitness. We leveraged our partnership with IHRSA to reach influential industry leaders and leading club sites. The European commission provided seed funding up to 2015 to develop initial resources and research, while IHRSA and IT Tralee since inputted technical expertise, finance and personnel to continue the implementation and research. ACE inputted financial support for our master trainer programme. UFIT brings an industry partner to an inclusion agenda- typically only addressed by disability organisations.

Our approach

Universal Fitness Innovation & Transformation (UFIT) was designed with a clear goal: to ‘inclusivize’ the fitness sector. As a comprehensive social change programme, it addresses the needs of federations, owners, managers, trade suppliers and fitness staff. UFIT provides professional education and lifelong training; facilitates the development of inclusive policies; creates inclusive fitness environments that guarantee access to health and wellbeing to all citizens, including those with disabilities and chronic conditions.

UFIT Global Partners

The UFIT Movement is supported by top industry leaders. Their consolidated experience and good practice contribute significantly to transform the fitness industry into one that values diversity.

People with disabilities in the world

Did you know...?

Physical inactivity is the 4th leading cause of global mortality. People with disabilities are three times less active than those without disabilities. Children with disabilities are 4.5 times less active than their peers while 93% of women with disabilities are sedentary. This has biopsychosocial implications and denies human rights.

We want to continue growing!
